My Appreciation of Watercolor: Paint Botanicals in the Gallery

Between the years 1908 and 1911 Charles E. Burchfield created nearly 500 botanical sketches that show the different wildflowers and plants he found in the forests and fields around his childhood home in Salem, Ohio.  These sketches are an important document of Burchfield’s early fascination with the natural world.  The exhibition Burchfield Botanicals features Burchfield masterworks, paired with these botanical sketches and objects from the Marchand Wildflower Collection at the Buffalo Museum of Science.  Paul Marchand created “scientifically accurate and artistically superb casts of flowers and mushrooms” as well as dioramas for the museum throughout his career.

On select Fridays, the exhibition Burchfield Botanicals will open to watercolorist to paint in the gallery.  Participants need to check in at admissions before heading to the gallery to sketch and paint.  Only graphite and watercolor pencils and paint will be allowed during the designated times.  Water needs to be contained in a water brush which will be available along with stools if needed. Space is limited.

Free with gallery admission.  Novice paint sets will be available to use for a $5 fee.
