Carol’s journals are her way of documenting her life, especially her travels, page by page.
Watercolor artist, Carol Case Siracuse, will present her approach to capturing travels experiences through sketching. Carol will introduce participants to the tools she has discovered and counts upon. Participants will have the opportunity to create work in their own sketchbooks and if weather permits, we will take our sketchbooks and drawing and painting tools outside. Bring your favorite watercolor sketchbook, and any portable artmaking tools with you. see full supply list below.

Carol Case Siracuse is a retired architect who has returned to the art making of her undergraduate years when she majored in Fine Arts particularly printmaking and drawing. She paints in watercolors, draws and paints in pen and ink, and uses various water media. Carol’s journals are her way of documenting her life, especially her travels, page by page.
A signature member of Niagara Frontier Watercolor Society, she recently retired as its president to take over the duties of Communications Director. Sheis also an Exhibiting Member of the Buffalo Society of Artists and Western New York Artists Group. Her images of Buffalo, its architecture and gardens, and her travels have been shown most recently in the group shows, Buffalo – a work in progress at Studio Hart in Buffalo, The Travellers Muse, Journaling Around the World at Dana Tillou Fine Arts in Buffalo, and at Betty’s in Buffalo where her solo show Captured Travels was a big hit. She is also represented by Tesori in Williamsville, NY. Her paintings have been accepted into juried shows for the Adirondack National Exhibition of American Watercolors, The BSA, WNYAG and NFWS. Her painting, Sunset on Hertel Avenue, won the Gold Medal in the 119th Catalogue Show of the Buffalo Society of Artists. Her work is in the collection of the Roswell Park Cancer Institute, the Castellani Art Center at Niagara University, and private collections across the country.
Supply List
Small watercolor paper (140 lb) sketchbook (Moleskine 5 x 8 is a good size)
For ink: Pigma micron pens, 1mm and 3mm, and/or a fountain pen with refillable cartridge that you can fill with archival ink. I will demonstrate this. Best to wait, as they can be expensive.
Brushes – short handle watercolor brushes - 8” or 10” round, ½” flat, a waterbrush (Kuretake,Pentel, Arteza), Travel brushes by Escoda are great, but expensive. Not necessary for this workshop.
A good old fashioned pencil – no. 2 and kneadable eraser
Watercolor pencils - Derwent is a good maker… I like Derwent Inktense
Small palette, filled with your own choice of colors or prefilled pans. (I recommend Winsor Newton (not Cotman), Daniel Smith, Holbein)
Paper towels (viva and bounty are the most absorbant). I carry a wad of them in my purse.
A water container good for dipping. (the size of a gelato one scoop)
An elementary school variety glue stick from any store, if you want to include collage elements on your sketchbook page.
