June 30, 2003

The first people to complete their Art On Wheels adventures will be honored at a special ceremony set for 11 a.m. TODAY, July 1 at the Wegmans store on Amherst Street between Elmwood and Grant in Buffalo.

Chris and Lisa Wilson of Niagara Falls were the first people to turn in their completed Art On Wheels passport, having finished their 57-site adventure in barely three weeks of exploration. The couple said the passport was the tool that allowed them to discover several of the lesser-known sites along the innovative arts trail. Next to get her passport completed was Marcia Binda of Buffalo, who did it with her son Matthew, a young disabled man who is benefiting from his motherís work of creating a scrapbook of their experiences on the arts trail.

Art On Wheels is leading thousands of people to discover the Buffalo Niagara regionís array of cultural and heritage jewels, with several sites reporting increased visitation due to their involvement in this groundbreaking program.

The Wilsons and Bindas will be honored Tuesday by representatives of the Art On Wheels team, Wegmans and from some sites along the arts trail. Site representatives will also discuss the impact Art On Wheels has had for them in its first weeks.

Art On Wheels is presented by M & T Bank and organized by the Burchfield-Penney Art Center and the Materials Reuse Project in partnership with The Buffalo News.
