Niagara Falls Couple Are First to Complete Arts on Wheels Arts Trail
Niagara Falls Couple Are First to Complete Art on Wheels Arts Trail Adventure Across Region Millers visited all 57 sites on innovative trail mixing art, tourism June 25, 2003
It didn't take long for one dedicated Niagara Falls couple to complete their Art On Wheels adventure, as they visited all 57 sites on the arts trail just three weeks after getting their official passport and embarking on this unique arts adventure.
And they can't wait to get back out on the trail to learn even more.
Chris and Julie Miller of Niagara Falls were the first people to turn in their completed Art On Wheels passport, which will be returned to them in the fall along with a special limited edition art print commissioned for this project. Only those people who get 50 or more site stamps in the Art On Wheels passport will receive the special artwork as a reward for their diligence and support of the project.
"We had a blast doing this," said Chris Miller. " We were taking in as many sites as we could each weekend, and we thought it was great that we had a guide to get to some place that we had heard about but never explored for ourselves. We even dragged along some of our friends and neighbors on the way."
Art On Wheels, an exciting new outdoor art exhibition that will be on display from mid-May through October. The program consists of 57 new works of art, including more than 30 art cars, which are automobiles that have been painted, sculpted onto or enhanced in some way to make them into art.
Art On Wheels is rounded out with several original sculptures created from recycled and found materials. Every piece in the public art project reflects themes of transportation and the wheel. By May 16, all of the pieces will take their places at 57 of the Buffalo Niagara region's leading cultural and heritage attractions. The unique path from site to site creates a dual effect - a chance to see an exciting and original outdoor art trail while also building a complete cultural tourism experience for residents and visitors alike.
Art On Wheels is presented by M & T Bank and organized by the Burchfield-Penney Art Center and the Materials Reuse Project in partnership with The Buffalo News. Find out more by visiting us on the web at www.artonwheels.org. You can purchase a passport at all Western New York Wegmans or at selected Art On Wheels sites. It will be the most fun you will have on (or off) four wheels.
