Meals On Wheels to Receive Art On Wheels Creation for Meal Delivery
6/9/2003

Meals On Wheels Vehicle Part of Roving Art Car Fleet Meals on Wheels of Buffalo & Erie County will deliver meals to recipients a little more creatively when they induct one of Art On Wheelsí roving art cars into their daily delivery program at Lew-Port High School at a 10:00 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony and celebration on Monday, June 16.

The donated art car is one of seven roving cars in the Art On Wheels project. This vehicle will be used primarily for meal delivery, but it may join the others in making appearances at festivals and special events across the Buffalo Niagara region during the One Summerlong Sensation campaign.

ìWe were so thrilled when we were asked to be a part of the Art On Wheels project,î said Richard Gehring, president of Meals on Wheels of Buffalo & Erie County. ìNot only will we be bringing daily meals to our recipients, but in such a creative way, we are sure to bring some extra smiles to their faces too.î

The car was donated by Gillogly Chevrolet, and sponsored by East Hill Foundation. Artist Brett Coppins and 120 of his students from Lew-Port High School custom designed the donated vehicle that the organization will be using to bring food and friendship to their recipients all across Buffalo and Erie County.

ìWe are thrilled that a part of this project can come to some people who might not otherwise experience Art On Wheels,î said Wendy Attea Huntington, Art On Wheels project director. ìThis partnership with Meals on Wheels gives new meaning to the term ëwork of art.í Weíre glad we can bring these two programs together in a unique way.î
Art On Wheels features original sculptures and art cars located at 57 of the regionís leading cultural and heritage attractions through mid-October. The project creates fun and exciting Buffalo Niagara adventures, with each artwork located at one of the many wonderful cultural and historic attractions in Erie and Niagara counties. By spanning the region and a broad spectrum of art styles, Art On Wheels is an unprecedented marriage of public art and cultural tourism.
